CRIMINAL CASES
If you are charged in a criminal case (aside from minor fine cases), you have the right to acquire an appointed defense attorney of your choosing. Initially, the state will cover the costs of your defense attorney. If you are acquitted, you don't need to pay anything. However, if you are convicted, you'll be required to reimburse the state for the costs of your defense attorney.
You are entitled to legal representation regardless of your financial situation.
However, if you are not entitled to have a defense attorney appointed, perhaps because your case is considered minor, you have the option of being represented by a chosen defense attorney. This means you'll be responsible for covering all costs associated with your defense attorney.
Regarding the chosen defence attorney, we refer to our specified fee, as outlined in our terms and conditions.
EXECUTION OF SENTENCES
Unfortunately, there is no coverage for this type of cases, except when it comes to parole cases, where you have the right to have an attorney appointed when your case goes to court.
Since we understand that finances can be greatly challenged during incarceration, we have decided to significantly reduce our prices in the area of execution of criminal sentences. Therefore, the hourly rate is different for cases within this legal area.
In addition, we select 5 pro bono cases each year that we believe are of principle. These we handle for free from start to final decision of the last appeals authority in Kriminalforsorgen. In some cases, we may choose to bring the case to court pro bono, but this requires a separate and explicit agreement. We do not bear the cost of replacing the counterparty's legal expenses in the case, and these must be borne by you under all circumstances if you lose the case. If you (exceptionally) are granted legal aid in the case, all your costs will be covered by the state.
In some cases, we may bring the case to the Ombudsman, also pro bono, but this requires a separate and explicit agreement.

FAMILY CASES
When your case has been processed by Familieretshuset and if it proceeds to the Family Court, you have the option of applying for legal aid. Legal aid is a scheme where the state covers attorney costs for you, and you are not required to reimburse them afterwards. To qualify for legal aid, you must meet the state's financial criteria and not exceed the income limit. Additionally, you must have reasonable grounds to proceed with the case.
Each year, Civilstyrelsen updates the income limits for legal aid, so we refer you to their website to view the current thresholds, which are adjusted for each dependent child living with you.
There is no option of applying for legal aid in Familieretshuset, so we refer you to our terms and conditions.
